The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Let me start off by saying I'm a huge fan of the Zelda series. Infact I
even bought a 400 dollar CDI just to play the 2 Zelda games available
for it. Was it worth it? No way. It was a horrible waste of 400 bucks and
I advise anyone and everyone to steer clear from the CDI. But onto Zelda.
This is a fantastic game. The game takes place I believe 100 years before
the other two. The plot is reminiscent of previous Zelda games (rescue the
princess, save the world from Ganon, ect.) but it's deeper and more involving,
which I like a lot. The story starts off simple, but as you progress it gets
much more complex, while keeping it's simplicity.
Graphics 10 out of 10
This game has simply gorgeous graphics. Naturally they far surpass the
first two, but we all know graphics don't make a game. The minute you
turn your system on you know your in for something special. The colors
are bright, and the characters are well detailed. The environment around
you look wonderful. The world of Hyrule is filled with things you would
only find in a dream. This is the stuff RPG's are made of! As one of the
earlier games released for the Super NES I must say that it's one of the
better looking. Remember seeing the town from Spectacle Rock, or
watching the rain falling from the sky in the beginning. The game has such
a happy-anime feel to it that hasn't been duplicated to this date. Simply gorgeous!
Music and Sound 8 out of 10
While the music isn't top-notch it is well done for it's time. It seems
Nintendo had just gotten out of the bleeping and blooping stage when this
game was released, and I'm quite pleased. The music is never repetitive
no matter how long you have to hear it. Some of the tunes are down-right
captivating, while others I found to be kind of annoying. Some of the best
music I've ever heard on the Super NES comes out of this cartridge. I can
tell you honestly that you won't walk away disappointed. Would I buy it
just for the music? My answer is yes. These tunes fit the mood Zelda
tries to set so perfectly, even without the game it paints a picture in your
mind of what they want you to see. Not the best over-all but certainly
not the worst.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
This game is HARD! You may find yourself stuck in a dungeon for over an
hour if your not good enough. Numerous times I just got lucky discovering
how to do this or that. Trust me, you need to have skills to make it through
this game. The first time around I died some 150 times. Of course now the
game is a piece of cake and I can beat it in about a day, the first time
around it won't be so easy. I mean who would of guessed that you need to
through rocks at a pool of shallow water to get a special medallion from a
catfish! I mean seriously, some of the puzzles are crazy, but they make
perfect sense in their own way... well sometimes.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
This is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable gaming experiences I
have ever had. This game has the power to change your life. From beginning
to end I must say it's just super. I love it. You'll love it. Buy this game is
all I can say. This is the game that will make you need to buy a Super
NES. I guarantee you can't go wrong with this title.
Frustration
This can be a very frustrating game. While many of the puzzles may seem
difficult or impossible, usually it's just a matter of flipping a switch, moving
a block, or lighting a torch. Knowing that in the end it can be very easy. Yes
the game is short, but it's rewarding. For me the most frustrating thing about
the game is when you decide to let your friend borrow the game, and move
away with it. Argh. Now that's frustration.
Replayability 8 out of 10
Now most people say RPG's aren't good for replayability. For the most part
they're right also. I don't think that's the case with Legend of Zelda. I think
there are enough secrets, tricks, and such to keep you coming back every
now and then. The memories games like these create will make you play
it again and again and that's what's important. And if none of the above
will motivate you to play the game again, just remember how fun it is to
beat Ganon, and save Hyrule from impending doom.
Game Value 10 out of 10
This game is well worth the price of admission. I'd pay a hundred bucks
to play this game, but since I already own it, that's not necessary.
Around now there's no better time to pick up this classic, especially since
you can get it used at game stores for around $15 dollars.
Overall 10 out of 10
One of the greatest games on the Super NES, and one of the greatest games
of all time.
