Super Mario All-Stars

Reviewed by Sarina Super Mario All-Stars is a game that consists of the three original Mario games (Mario Brothers 1, 2, and 3), and Mario's Lost Levels. These games play just like the original ones, with the same key configurations, the same graphics, and the same corny music. The only thing that's new is the Lost Levels, which are incredibly hard compared to the other games.

Graphics 1 out of 20

The graphics in Super Mario All-Stars start from the worst of Super Mario Brothers 1, and gradually get a little better as you continue through the ranks of games. They're still nowhere near the full graphics potential of the Super Nintendo, and it will never be close to the graphics power of the Nintendo 64, but all in all the graphics are cute, however blocky.

Music and Sound 1 out of 20

The music is corny, which is about all that can be said about it. One can only stand so much of the same song, but when you get the same song for four or five different levels, it's time to give it up. Either that or mute the TV and turn on some _real_ music.

Game Challenge 1 out of 10

Dependant upon your hand/eye coordination skills, this game could be the easiest or the hardest game you've ever played. The game itself is simple: Go through to the end of the board and jump on the flag pole to go to the next level. Jump on the heads of your enemies to kill them and be on your way. Really not that hard.

Game Play-Fun 3 out of 20

This game can be pretty amusing, especially since you have so many choices of games you can play. If you want old and simple you can play Super Mario Brothers 1, or if you want something insanely difficult that you can fail at and yet and scream at for an hour before you finally throw your controller at the TV in sheer frustration, you can play the Lost Levels. However, after you've beaten the game ... and then it starts to repeat ... that's when you really get ready to put it down.

Frustration

This game can cause a very high level of frustration. The harder levels are ridiculous, and if you can't get it within the first ten or twelve times, you start to get *really* annoyed with it. However, once you've discovered the secrets to the boards, you'll find that the next time you play it will be incredibly easy.

Replayability 1 out of 10

This is a game that can be played over and over, again due to its large number of game choices. You can also save your games and pick them back up later. These games are always a fun thing to play on a boring summer day or a rainy afternoon after school.

Game Value 6 out of 10

The value of this game has dropped massively over the past few years, since the introduction of the Playstation and the Nintendo 64, but it's an even better investment now because it's a great game for the small price. You'll get hours of enjoyment out of it, and it's well worth the price.

Overall 4 out of 10

Super Mario All-Stars is a great game. It provides hours of general entertainment, and is pretty cheap to buy in the first place. I really recommend this game, it's perfect to play at just about any time.
