Super Mario World

Get the game at!

Reviewed by Brent Page One of the best and most challenging games I have ever played, is also arguably one of the best for the Super NES. This game is packed with levels, secret exits, a secret world, and some really neat music!!! I hated it when I beat this game because I didn't want it to be over. So I just replayed it, over and over again. By far the best mario game that has come out other than possibly 64 which I have not played. This is the game that you do not want to do a cheat or walkthrough if you can help it. Granted, this means you may take a VERY long time to solve it, but it makes it all the better, besides some things once solved help you to solve later problems. Once you get to the chocolate world you think you have it all down, only to find out an exit leads you right back to the same level!!! Incredible game, that will make everyone around you hate you for spending so much time at the Nintendo.

Graphics 8 out of 10

Since this game, we have seen that Super NES can do much better wih graphics. On the other hand most of the other games don't come close to this complexity either, so I'm not sure that it is a fair comparison. The graphics are fine though. Yoshi is very cute and mario is starting to look much more real. The worlds are getting more complex and neater, and the fun level goes way up with these graphics. Whether it is swimming with the fish, or running from ghosts, everything is crystal clear. The koopas are looking cute, and everything is just so much sharper than previous games. However I digress, as I am to compare this to other Super NES games. Much better than the games out at the same time, much to be desired when compared to any of the Donkey Kong Countries or Yoshi's Island. Again though, with the amount of levels and such forth it easily deserves an 8 out of 10

Music and Sound 9 out of 10

I absolutely cannot get those mario songs out of my head!!! Yet again great songs and arrangements. The sounds are clear and believable. My favorite is the music change in the secret world. A nice little calypso sound to the already familiar mario theme. I would give it a 10 out of 10, but hey I have played Yoshi's Island and the music is even better if you can believe it, and so are the sounds. I cannot think of any other game for Super NES that can top the mario games for music, some come close or win on sound, but the music is just awesome. KI comes close on music, but it lacks a little on sound so I still put Yoshi's Island an then Super Mario World on top in this department.

Game Challenge 9 out of 10

This game is MUCH harder than Yoshi's Island, and is difficult even when given a cheat or walkthrough, this means great challenge ahead, and better satisfaction when winning. Some levels get so aggrivating, that you just want to scream, and the walkthrough, which hopefully you only looked to after about a 100 tries doesn't help one iota on some of them. Truthfully it is the secret world that gives the levels that are just about impossible. they can be beat, but what I want to know, is who can beat them and still get to every significant part of the level? I can't and after beating the level, I was so happy to get past it I wasn't to interested in exploring it, but now... maybe I will. Some levels will seem quite easy, but on some of those I guarantee you overlooked something. Experienced gamers will like this game, that I sure of.

Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10

Once you get the hang of flying, who couldn't have fun at this game? The aggravations are all worth it. This game is even more fun than Yoshi's Island, and certainly more fun than any fight game I can think of. It beats Kirby's All Stars on the fun scale, and Donkey Kong Country too. I was so pleased with this game that I honestly feel that no matter what, it will be very difficult to come up with a game quite like this again. BTW, this game is great fun for kids, but I think adults like it even more. I am a huge baseball fan and I ALMOST enjoy playing this game more than baseball, and to say almost with a baseball fanatic like me tells you volumes about this game.

The frustrations of this game are many and frequent. That all ties in with the challenge. Some levels seem that they could not possibly have a secret exit, yet you know they do, where is it? Some levels (Ghost houses) you get lost and wonder how you will ever get out, and in fact time runs out on several of your lives. Don't play this game in a bad mood.

Replayability 10 out of 10

I thought after beating it, the magic would go away. I turned it on, started a cleared game, and proceeded to enjoy it as much or more than I did the first time. After learning some of the tricks of the game, some of the first levels are a riot!! Amazingly, some of the levels in which were so hard to get past the first time are still hard the second time even though you learned the trick!! This game cannont be thoroughly enjoyed until you have beaten it at least twice, then the 3rd and 4th times are still amazingly fun!

Game Value 10 out of 10

Most people go this one with the system. This is one of the few games I could see justifying a $59.99 price tag. I can't believe some of the games are still up there!!! Kirby's dreamland 3 and Mario RPG come to mind. This game at 20 or 30 dollars is more than a bargain, it is a steal! If you don't have it, get it. If you can't find it go to a used game store, they will usually have it for 25-30 and it is well worth it at that price.

Overal 10 out of 10

This game is super! I came I saw I got my butt kicked. I enjoyed it. I came I saw I kicked butt. I enjoyed it even more. This game has few if any equals on the Super NES level. Just be glad if you get it that you at least had this game for the system. It is the only game that you should be embarrassed to have not played if you own a Super NES. If you don't own a Super NES, why are you reading this??? Well if you are thining of getting one, Go get it!!! And make sure you get this game!!

Want this game? Find it on!!
