Flashback: The Quest for Identity

Get the game at Amazon.com!

Reviewed by Kathy Cote' The beginning of "Flashback" is really great. They show lots of cinematics, which is good on my list, and the plot starts out great. The way everything is layed out in the beginning is excellent. Instead of just walking around and going in doors, you need to find stuff and sometimes do tasks to get to the place you need to go. You never know what's lurking around the next door either. That's what I love most about this game.

Graphics 9.0 out of 10

The graphics in this game are wonderful. "Flashback" was actually one of the first games made with its partial 3d graphics. After every level in the game there are cinematics, which by the way are done incredibly good compared to Super Mario's 2bit graphics. Overall the effects in this game were pretty awesome.

Music and Sound 10 out of 10

Every piece of music in this game is perfectly fit for each level and its sounds. For example, in the first level, your in a jungle type of place, and the music sounds like your in a jungle. Wow!! What a coincidence. I have know games though that the music does not even fit its surroundings. Also, when you put your energy in the energon or whatever, that sound fits it. That is what I would expect if I put my energy in an energon!! Wait a minute...

Game Challenge 10 out of 10

This game is one of the biggest challenges I have ever seen in a Super Nintendo game. I beat it on easy, and it was still freakin hard!!! The first, second, and third levels are pretty easy, but once you start 4-7 they get incredibly hard. Remember, I was on easy. But I love a challenge in a game, and if you were to buy a game for how hard it was, this would definatly be it.

Game Play-Fun 9.5 out of 10

"Flashback" is definatly a fun game. Personally, since it is so challenging, it is the funniest game I have played for that category. For instance, in the second level, you have to go around and do jobs for certain things. That was my favorite part of the game. Also, the character in the game can do so many different things. I had a lot of fun experimenting with all the stuff he can do!! (What can I say, I'm easily entertained.) Since there was a lot of action and adventure in this game, it was a blast going to the next level just to see what it was like!!! I'm sure anyone would love this game as much as I did.

Frustration

Yes, I admit it. Some parts in this game can get very frustrating. Sometimes you can't find out where you need to go, or how you kill a person that seems unbeatable. Also, there was a down side to this game. The saving. I didn't like how if you turned the game off, you had to enter a password and start at the beginning of the level, and not where you left off before you turned the game off. That made me a little mad sometimes, especially when I got real far. Also, sometimes the guy doesn't seem to do exactly what you want him to, and so you either die, get hurt, or just get angry when you cant seem to get up on that stupid ledge!!! So, even though the game was fun, I do agree that a lot of it was very frustrating.

Replayability 8.5 out of 10

I could most definatly play this game again. It is fun, challenging, interesting and exciting in many different ways. Even though I know what's going to happen, I still like to feel my heart pump. But, if you have another game you haven't played yet, or a better game that you like, I definatly say play that instead, cause personally, "Flashback" can really make you mad. So yah, I would play this again if I had nothing else to do.

Game Value 9.0 out of 10

This game was definatly worth the price. It is as I said before, a game with a great plot, great effects, and wonderful characteristics in music, sound and game play. For $35.00 I got what I wanted.

Overall 10 out of 10

Conclusion: This game was all I expected it to be, and more. It had a great beginning, middle, and end. I got my monies worth, and I really had a lot of fun playing the levels and trying to figure out codes and stuff. This game was an awesome one, and one I would definatly recommend to others.
