Final Fantasy 2

Get the game at Amazon.com!

Reviewed by Brad McDonald Final Fantasy 2, otherwise known as Japan's Final Fantasy 4, is the second Final Fantasy game to be sold in the United States. It tells the story of a hero named Cecil, and his quest to find out why the king has suddenly become so ruthless. You'll lead him through many towns and castles, many caves, and even the moon!

Graphics 4.5 out of 5

The graphics in this game are well above average compared to all the other Super Nintendo games. The graphics during monster battles are cool, along with the overall graphics of the characters and the world/moon map (s). Only a couple of things prevent this game from getting a 5 out of 5 rating: the graphic for attacking a monster is just a couple little swings of the character's weapon, and the graphics for the inside of the moon ship. Don't get me wrong, the graphics for the inside of the moon ship were good, but not exceptional.

Music and Sound 5 out of 5

Who couldn't give the catchy music of this game a 5 out of 5 rating? This is the first game where Chocobos are seen, and the music for the Chocobos is still the same tune (with little refinements here and there) throughout all the Final Fantasy games! Once one hears the battle music theme, then you'll never forget it. The music on the moon is also exceptional! Even the sound effects are great for a Super Nintendo game! I liked the music for this game so much, I went out and ordered a copy of the soundtrack, but since it is hard to find, it had to be imported from Japan... but it was worth it!!!

Game Challenge 4.7 out of 5

Any role playing game is easy for those of you who like them the most above all other types of games, but this game does make you think. There are hidden spells (or ways of acquiring them), mostly summon spells, and to get some of them, the player has to think about how to beat the boss, which (sometimes) isn't easy. ie. How do you beat a boss who heals herself of all the damage you do, and also hurts your party...? and What is the most effective way to kill a boss who will kill you in 5 turns unless you kill him first...? How do I turn Cecil into a Paladin, and what can I do to make the final boss battle easier?

Game Play-Fun 5 out of 5

Even after all the games for all the systems that are presently being sold, I still find time to play and replay this game over, and over, and over again. The storyline is easy to follow, and it really makes the player "feel" the plot, and really get involved in the game. The monster fights aren't difficult, but at the same time, they aren't easy either.

Frustration

There were no problems with the game, or anything frustrating about the game. I found no annoying glitches or anything of the sort while playing.

Replayability 5 out of 5

As I said before, this game is one that any role playing fan who likes to go back to the "traditional" role playing games while taking a break from the current megabuck role playing games out on the market today, will love playing this game again.

Game Value 5 out of 5

Definitely worth the price of the game. You will play this game over and over, and you will never get bored of it!

Overall 4.9 out of 5

Over all, I give Final Fantasy a 4.9 out of 5 rating, because it is an all around excellent game, with a great storyline, exceptional sounds and music, and great graphics.
