Final Fantasy 2

Reviewed by SizzleSword Although we people in American missed out on some great Final Fantasy games, at least we have Final Fantasy 2. Final Fantasy 2 is easily my favorite Final Fantasy game. I like it about 10 times better than any other Final Fantasy game that I have ever played, and I still play it very much (about 4 times a week). A lot of people might think that Final Fantasy 3 is better, but not me. I don't really like 'newer' RPGs (newer meaning newer things in the game... The game seeming like it's from the 90's, with technology and stuff), and this one does not seem new at all.

Graphics 9 out of 10

Being a game that was released for the Super NES not long after the Super NES itself came out, Square nor Nintendo were able to make the game look any better (Mode 7 being the only thing that actually made the game 'shine'), like Final Fantasy 3. The airship uses the wonderful Mode 7 scrolling technology in the graphics, that give the game an almost 3-D feel. The enemies look very nice, and so do the characters.

Music and Sound 10 out of 10

Final Fantasy 2 has some excellent music, some of the best music that I have heard on the Super NES. Almost everything had it's own theme, and each and every theme sounded great. If I could find a soundtrack for this game, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Until then, I just have to listen to MP3s and midis.

Game Challenge 10 out of 10

Being an RPG (a Final Fantasy one, at that), this game is really hard. It's not as long as Final Fantasy 3, but I would say that it's just as hard, if not harder. One thing that makes this game a little better (easier, for beginners) is that you level up quicker than you do in most other RPGs. You don't level up really quick, but you don't have to fight 100 battles to raise up one level.

Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10

I had lots of fun with this game. Although it's strictly an RPG, there's some comedy and such in it. Unlike Dragon Warrior, the characters actually have some actions. It was also fun trying to get every treasure chest in the game.

Frustration

This game isn't as frustrating as Final Fantasy III, but there's maybe 1 or 2 hard parts. Some of the caves and mountains are really hard, and may get frustrating since it seems like the enemies will never stop attacking. It also takes a while to learn spells, so the bosses are pretty frustrating too if you're not prepared.

Replayability 10 out of 10

I've beat this game 4 times, and looking forward to beating it a 5th time. Unlike other RPGs, this one just doesn't seem to get old... Probably because it's not quite as hard as most other RPGs.

Game Value 10 out of 10

I got this game for $20, and I think that that was a wonderful price. I see it at Funcoland for $50 nowadays, but I would probably still buy it if I didn't have it already. If you see it for anything below $50, that's a good price. I did see a pawn shop selling it for $9 once, so I told my cousin about it and he went and bought it that same day.

Overall 10 out of 10

If you played Final Fantasy 3 first and thought it was too hard, this might be a break from that type of RPG (really long, with many powerful enemies and confusion on what to do next). If you like RPGs and you do not have this game, I recommend that you go ahead and find a store that has it and buy it, since it's a pretty rare game now (I think, it's not in many stores, and Funcoland only had 2 copies last time I checked).
