Donkey Kong Country

Get the game at Amazon.com!

Reviewed by John Beatrez Donkey Kong, a name you might remember from a little game where you have to save the girl in each level as you try to dodge the barrels and unknowns. This game was a piece of junk!!!! Where Donkey Kong Country just took the name and a few characters not any thing, or hardly anything else.

Graphics 9.5 out of 10

The graphics of this game explain its popularity with 3D like movements. Rare obviously took a lot of time developing it and its counterparts. This was no sling together SNES game unlike so many seen before. This game was completely computer generated and animated each character had a wire frame computer generated body. After developed the frames were animated to make the thing look 3 D and the bang up job done by Rare shone through by making an N64 type graphic game on a 16 bit system!!

Music and Sound 7 out of 10

Rare put so much time into developing the game that it left out the most important part that may cause it to be shelved or get its chips fried, MUSIC!!! Rare put more time in developing the bumps, dings, whistles, and wobbles than the main music. This cost them major audio points by me! The tempo and all around beat is fine until you turn to the jungle, factory, and cavern levels. the sound of the things getting hit are superb but the other music is just that, music, no catchy beat or rhythm just simple piano enhanced music with a few effects but not enough!

Game Challenge 11 out of 10

Rare nicely developed the levels and clever hide and seek with the barrels. I especially liked the snow levels , personally my favorite, well developed, highly imaginative levels with a large degree of difficulty. Levels are usually easy to beat but not to find the secrets. This is what causes its high rank of difficulty. The difficulty does not stop there you have to find all the secrets and beat all the levels. How much of the game is beaten is marked in percentages on the saved games start screen you must get 101% to completely beat the game !!!

Game Play-Fun 9 out of 10

This game was extremely addictive to play with its excellent graphics and levels the pure enjoyment of beating a hard level was enough to keep me coming back for more and more of it.

Frustration

My only frustration was trying to find the barrels that contained secrets. Some of these barrels were extremely difficult to locate I think this was a major turn off to kids who wanted to find these barrels. I mean I am in 8th grade and in honors and gifted classes and I had trouble finding them!!!

Replayability 9 out of 10

This game was spectacular and that was enough to keep any one coming back to try to find that last secret that you could not find or beat the last boss for the first time . The main reason I got bored with it is because the tracks of audio do not change and it gets monotonous

Game Value 10 out of 10

YES! YES! YES! It is worth the price that it is at now around 30 dollars but it was not worth it so much then when it was 60 dollars which its counterparts still hold that price today. I would definitely buy this game if I were given another chance to.

Overall 9.9 out of 10

This game is the best game for people who are interested in a good game cheap almost anyone can afford it if they own a SNES.
