Donkey Kong Land

Get the game at Amazon.com!

Reviewed by Anthony Kotorac So you enjoyed Donkey Kong Country at a friend's house on a SNES but you don't have a SNES but you have a Game Boy? Well this game is for you. The story is quite different from DKC 1 because Cranky lets K-Rool steel the banana horde! And Donkey Kong has to steel it back!

Graphics score 7.5 out of 10

Hooray! A Game Boy game with ACM graphics ! Well they did it on the SNES with DKC 1 so now they did it on Game Boy with Donkey Kong Land! The graphics are just like its cousin (DKC 1). The trees, the buildings, the caves, even the characters are all 3-D. If you have a Super Game Boy adapter you'll experience the graphics tons better then on the Game Boy screen, plus you'll see it in color so you'll play it better.

Music and Sound 6 out of 10

You'll find that some of the sounds are like normal game-boy games. For example the 'boing' sound when you jump on an enemy or make a door way. But the music is so sharp and excellent for a puny game boy screen. They took some music out of DKC 1 plus they add some songs so you won't be hearing the same stuff from DKC 1 all of the time.

Game Challenge 7 out of 10

There is one problem with the game. There are not enough levels. There are only 4 worlds with 8 stages in each. But still there are some stages which take forever to pass. If the makers of the game simplified the graphics there would be more levels ( They simplified the background in the 2 sequels). Even the bosses are too easy to pass ( Except for K-Rool).

Frustration

Certain stages, like the snow stages, the graphics are too complicated so they hide the characters. You'll probable miss the baddies hidden in the complicated background.

Replayability 4 out of 10

Once you've passed everything you'll obviously think it's tooooo boring.

Overall 7 out of 10

In conclusion I like to say that this game is perfect for practicing your skills and for beginners too. But if your too good for Donkey Kong then don't get this game.
