Level 8-4 tips

Sent in by Greg Smeck Level 8-4 can be kind of confusing, and down right frustrating after a while. Here's a little help... the pipes that you should go down always follow a lava hazard. First keep going until you see lava, then go across it using the mover, and go down the next pipe. When you come up go to the right (as if you have a choice). After a small lava pool there are 2 winged turtles and a pipe in the air. Kill the turtles and to the left of the pipe, about 2 spaces over, is a hidden block. Hit it, then go down the pipe. When you come up go to the right again, look out for the flying fish, and go down the pipe after the small lava hazard. This should bring you to an underwater world. Go through that world, and the pipe at the end. When you come up you should see a hammer brother, the next enemy after that is the last one. Get the axe, save the princess, and start all over again.

Warp to World 6, 7, or 8

Sent in by Mark To get to warp to World 6, 7, or 8, go to World 4-2 and go through the level until you find the ? blocks. Jump over the pit and move to the square under the last block above. Jump, and a secret block will appear. Jump on top, break the block above, and the one to the left of it. Fall to the left, and jump. Another secret block will appear. Jump on that, hit your head on the one and break the first block. A beanstalk will go up! Climb it and go through the level. Then there will be warp zone to Level 6, 7 and 8.

Secret World

Sent in by Ben Brand Go to the end of World 1-2 where you make the decision to jump up to the warp or go to 1-3. There you move over to where it shows just the pipe and the blocks on top. Then you hit each block out that you can, until just the 2 farthest to the right are there, then you get on the left edge of the pipe, face left, duck and jump to the right into the wall. If your luckly, you may go through the wall. Go in the pipe to the left. If that won't work, face left, on the left edge of the pipe, and while standing, jump to the right into the wall to the right. This will take you to the famous World -1 level that never ends.

Warp to World 5

Sent in by Ryan After you do the trick at the end of World 1-2 that lets you float through the wall (see Ben Brand's tip, above this tip), instead of going into the 1st pipe on the left and entering the minus world, go into the middle pipe. This will warp you straight to World 5-1!!! If you go into the pipe on the right, it will also take you to the -1 world. Don't move too far to the right, though, or everything will turn into the regular warp zone again.

99 lives

Sent in by Bean Go to Level 3-1 almost to the end where there's a big row of stairs with two turtles on it. Let the first one fall and then go to the second and wait for it to be barely off the edge. Jump on it and keep jumping on it to get 99 lives. Don't get more then 99 lives or you might get a Game Over.

Be small and have Fire power

Sent in by Kris Smith I haven't gotten this trick to work yet in Super Mario All-Stars, so it may have been taken out, but it does work in the original NES version. The only level I've gotten it to work on, is Level 2-4, but I think it works in others too.. Here's what you do. First, you need to get to Bowser with either Big Mario or Fire Mario. Now, this is the tricky part. You have to hit the axe (while still in the big form) AND Bowser at the SAME time (trust me, it's possible). This will cause you to shrink down, and Bowser will fall into the lava. Now, In world 3-1 (or which ever world comes next, if you do it in a level other than 2-4), and get the first Mushroom. You will grow big for a second, and then shrink again. Now, go to the next item block (it's important that you don't get hit), and hit it. A Fire Flower will pop up. When you get it, you will still be small, but every time you shoot a fireball, Mario will grow big for a brief instant to shoot it, and shrink again. This trick wares off once you get hit. I'm not sure if it's still there if you beat the level, since I never could without getting hit once, but it might. This trick also works somewhat when you are small Mario at Bowser, but it produces different effects. What happens, is when you hit the axe and Bowser at the same time when you're small, Mario will do his little Death Scene, but he floats at an angle into the area where the Mushroom guy is and falls through the floor next to him. I'm not sure if you lose a life or not, but I don't think that it causes any other effects other than Mario dyeing in the Mushroom Guy's room.

Fireworks

Catch the flagpole at the end of the stage when the last digit of the timer is a 1, 3, or 6. One, three, or six bursts of fireworks will go off, giving you 500 points for each.

Continue

When your game is over, hold A and press Start on the Title screen. This lets you continue from the beginning of the world that you were defeated in.

Game Genie codes

Sent in by Tony Hedstrom VVAANY Timer counts up instead of down!! This code basically gives you as much time as you want to finish a level. The longer you take to finish a level, the more points you get at the end!! AETLTK Jump as high as you want! Works while standing, running, or turbo running! (No need to enter 3 seperate jump codes anymore, because this one code will do the work of all 3 jump codes in the Galoob code book. Plus, this code allows you to jump MUCH higher than any of the Galoob codes.) PIATYP Enemies can go thru pipes, walls, and blocks! Mario (as usual) can't go thru pipes, walls, or blocks. This code really changes the way you play SMB. AEAENT Mario can jump higher when walking, running, or turbo running! Also, he jumps further (only when normal running). PAZSKO Once you turn into Fire Mario, you will always be able to shoot fireballs, even if you turn small again (until you die). Also, if you touch an enemy, it will make you power-up!! (On some emulator ROMs, the code will make you invincible.) ANTOSA Ever have trouble remembering which pipes you can and can't go down? Well, this code solves that problem! The pipes you can't go down are upside-down, the pipes you can go down are normal. PAASNO Take no damage from most enemies! Depending on which version of SMB you are using, you may have to either become Big Mario, or jump on one enemy before becoming invincible. (NOTE: this code doesn't work against the potted plants.) YSAOPE + YEAOZA "Level Select" code!! Lets you start on any world you want! Here is how to get to the level select screen: When you first start out, you are in a new world (0-1) and you have to finish this level to get to the level select screen. Here's how: Swim (yes swim) past the first pipe you see and keep going until you see some water at the bottom of the screen. Swim over the top of the blocks that are above the water, but not too far. Then swim down and backwards a little to drop down through the little opening in the blocks that lets you get to the bottom of the screen. This part is very important because if you aren't at the bottom part of the screen, you won't be able to finish the level. Once you get to the lower part of the screen, just keep going to the end of the level. When you get to the end, it will say "Thank You Mario, but our Princess is in Another Castle". To get the game to continue, you have to press "B". Now your at the "Level Select" screen! Just press "B" until you see the world you want (at the top of the screen), and then press "Start". AAGOPO Mario can swim everywhere, and you start some worlds about 1/2 way thru. By changing the first letter to P,Z,L, or G, you can adjust where you start the levels. If you change the first letter to a "G", then you will start some worlds right next to the flag pole! (and mario can swim!) VGYOKK Time starts at 900 (instead of 400) GUAOPO Start with 400 more seconds, and invincibility for the first 10 seconds. VTTNYA Mario skates like gumby LEAOGK Opens route to minus world! But shooting them does kill them. UAYIUA Take no damage from touching enemies! NYTELN Items that were worth 1,000 points, are now worth 1,000,000,000 points!! Basically, just add 6 zeros to what the item was worth. So if an item was worth 100 points, now it's worth 100,000,000 points. Actually, what this code does, is add 4 more zeros between the score and the number of coins collected. So the score counter has 12 digits, instead of only 6. The last two digits are really the coin counter, but looks like it's part of the score counter. The code does have one little glitch. On worlds that have a light background (like 1-1), the score is a little hard to see. But on screens with a dark background (like 1-2, coin rooms, etc.), the score shows up just fine. So if you are having trouble seeing the score in the first World (1-1), just go down the tube to the coin room, or loose a life, or finish the level. The score shows up fine in 1-2. YNAOPO Time starts at 150 instead of 400 (plus about 30 seconds of invincibility at the start of every life). LEAOPO Time starts with one extra minute (460 instead of 400). LXAOPP Time starts at 600 instead of 400 (plus about 10 seconds of invincibility at the start of every life). GVAOPP Time starts at 995 instead of 400 (plus about 20 seconds of invincibility at the start of every life). TSLIIT Most enemies are gone TSPIIT All enemies are gone! (Sorry, this code doesn't seem to work on the SMB only version.) If you try to jump while running, you can barely jump at all. But jumping when standing still, lets you jump as high as you want! If you hold down the button for 3 minutes, Mario will keep climbing higher, and higher for 3 minutes! The clock even stops running! Then, if you let go of the button, it will take Mario 3 more minutes to fall back to the ground! GETLYG Mario has semi lunar descent. This means that when you jump, you float back to the ground instead of just droping. This code works for standing, running, or turbo running. VGAOKK New cloud world (use with PIGOAP) VGPOKG New water world VTPOKK New underground world ASAOGG New maze world (use with PIGOAP and be ready to press jump button as soon as game starts). NGPOKG Start at 1-2 OVAAAE Slow-motion, plus other neat stuff SYLOKG No enemies, or in different places (use with PIGOAP or AETLTK to help get past some levels, like 1-2). AITOSA Mario walks past castle at end of 1-1 and keeps on going forever STPONE All castles are missing, but game still plays normally. NTPOLS After the first pipe, mario keeps on going forever (no obsticles). GNATUE Enemies follow you! (Best if you use this code with SSASSA). UATIUE Invincibility! Mario walks right thru enemies. PLAOKK Starts out in new cloud world (or underwater world if you have SMB only version), then you drop down to some new underwater worlds. TTPOZG 1-1 has stuff from other worlds. TPPOZG 1-1 is very different and much longer than normal. Also, if you die, when you come back, your at the flag pole, and after you jump on the pole, you keep on going past lots of neat stuff, and then you fall down a hole and the game starts to freak out. (It's never the same.) PAZULG Mario can float for a very long time. You have to press and hold the jump button for this code to work right. Only works from a standing start. (This is just a simple modification of a Galoob code). STPENT X-ray vision (bizarre). Shows where hidden blocks are. PLZOKK Start at 2-1 ??, then it goes to 1-2. (use with PIGOAP). VTLNKA It rains "200 point" icons TAAPIG Almost a solid row of blocks in 1-1, and 1-2 (can't get past 1-2). PAAPIK Similar to above, except you can get past 1-2 NIYNEE in 1-1, the enemies have hammers LSAENT + ZLGOKG New worlds (hold "Right" on controller #1, and use controller #2 to control Mario). ASAENT + NTPOPI At the end of a new underwater world, Mario keeps going for a LONG time, and while he is walking, you get to see lots of graphics from different parts of the game. ASAENT + NTPOZT New underwater world OLZPKG New underwater worlds YSAENV Starts out in underwater world, then goes to 1-1 if you die. ISAENT If you press the "A" button, you can position Mario anywhere on the screen. If you don't press the "A" button, the screen won't scroll. New Levels

PGAOKK Level 4-2 made up of yellow vine-like things (you can cling onto them like a vine). You will fall after you move a few vines. Use the TELLEY code and press right as you are falling (right at the beginning). You will fly up, and start bumping your head on the ceiling. If you are good, you can make your way pretty far in this level without falling up all the way (check to see if your timer stops) SGAOKK A midnight Cloud run. You go through an area full if clouds, and then come to an area you can't cross except with the TELLEY code (a little hard to do though). If you manage to cross it, at a certain point, the game freezes. SAGOOK The water level, only you don't swim. The coral is composed of the bricks, and there are goobmas, turtles, and bullet bills. The background is the water, only light blue, like sky. The pits are impossible to cross without a high jump code (since they were meant to be swam over). I think after you get to the pipe, the next level crashes. TAKOKK Level 3-3, only with no enemies. There is also no platforms (the orange things that move), so you need a high jump code. Level 1-2 repeats this, and 1-3 is a slightly messed up version of the regular 1-2. Don't take the normal pipe at the end! You must use a warp zone. Any other levels repeat this pattern (Level 3-3 for the first two levels, the level *-2 for the third, the * being the world you are currently at). I think it crashes it you try to go to world *-4. AGIOPK Level 1, only floor is composed of vine thingys. Impossible to beat (as far as I know) PGAOKG Mario visits Las Vagas :) It's a replica of world 1-4, only with lots of flashing lights :) Use the TELLY code to get to the axe (don't worry, there's no Bowser). Hit it, and you go to the next world. After that, it takes you to a level where you are frozen. It's all black with a dark blue background, and one Bullet Bill shoots. You can't do anything though. OGAOKK Pipe Level. Unfortunately, you start with no time (so you die immediately). If someone finds a infinite time code, try it on this level. SAKOKK A world with those big mushrooms. Unfortunately, like the above code, there is no time. OAKOKK This is my favorite one! It's a normal level, but if you take a vine or pipe, it takes you to the Ruins of Bowser's Castle (as I like to call it). It's level 1-4, but the ceiling and floor are made of bricks, and the lava is turned into water. There are no enemies, and there is only an axe at the end. You can actually beat the game with no effort this way! The axe automatically takes you to level 1 of the next world, you can get to World 8, get the axe, and win! Note in some levels, the vine/pine will take you back to the beginning instead (it looks cool, because the vine is growing out of the castle) :) Try completing the flag pole, or taking the vine again (sometimes it works if you get sent to the beginning, and try again, but not always) TGOPOK + STZPOK Water World. Level 1 is filled with water. You can complete it, and get to some other various levels filled with water (I forget exactly with ones). I know after awhile it messes up in some way. Note that some of these codes can be mixed to make other levels, but I didn't really find any combinations worth mentioning. Some combos will blank out the game when you start it. If so, just reset, and try another.

If you have any experience with the always stay big code, you will know that it does NOT work until you get big--ie get a mushroom. With this code, once you get big, just as with the always stay big code, you will never die unless you fall in a pit or run out of time. However, you do not stay big!!!!!! The first time you die, you will change from big to little, as usual. The second time you die, you will change from little to big Other cool things you can do with this code. *Have fire power when you are small. *You don't lose your fire power or invincible power when you die from enemies (that is when you change size). You do, however, lose those powers when you fall in a pit. Easily change size just by killing yourself.

(trust me I've been there it is like in level 5-2)
