After Bowser's health reaches zero, Bowser says "No, this can't be happening! How could I lose to Mario....again?!" After that, he falls on his stomach. After Mario does that whole winning a battle thing, it goes to a scene where the star spirit's talk with Mario. After the finish, they send both Mario and Princess Peach the the front of the castle, which has now reapeared. After another bit of talking, they fly away to Star Shrine. Wink stays behind a little and bids goodbye to Peach before flying away.

After Mario and Peach walk into the castle, the screen goes black and the following words appear:

"And so, with the help of the Star Spirits, Mario managed to foil Bowser's evil plan, and the Star Rod was returned to it's rightful place. But was Bowser beaten for good? Or would the King Koopa return one day with another evil plan? Only time could tell. But until then, all Mario wanted to do was relax and enjoy time with his friends."

Then the credits roll. After the credits, it shows the Princess's castle, and in front of it are the words, THE END.

Remember in the commercial for this game where Peach is hanging above a paper shreader? They should have that. And after you defeat Bowser, you set the Princess free and there is a big party.
