Game Ending Ideas - NES - Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos

While playing the game, it seems as if Ashtar has died. Despite this, in 3, it says he just retreated to the bowels of the earth. While I'm loathe to consult 3 for anything, my love of the character motivates me to consider this canon relevant :)
